OUR ROOTS
THE BEGINNING
From Naples To New York
In 1903 a ship arrived in New York City from Naples, Italy with 5 Italian immigrants, Angelo and Carmela Buonomo and their four children Marcellino, Giovanni, Maria and Catherine. The Buonomo family or in Italian “the good men'“ were the first of our Founder Jennifer Stucko’s Italian ancestors to arrive in the United States from the small village of Piana Di Monte Verna about 80 kilometers from what eventually became Jennifer’s favorite place in Italy, the island of Capri.
IN NEW YORK CITY
Chasing the American Dream
Angelo, a Men’s Tailor and Carmela, a Button Whole Maker sailed to America in hopes of living the American dream. Their children took jobs as a packer in the doll industry, a shipping clerk in automobile, a shoe polisher and a clothing presser. Although they had little money, they celebrated a rich life celebrating family and tradition in the most beautiful way. From Italy they brought with them the Italian lifestyle and regal craftsmanship.
FINDING HISTORY
Rediscovering Roots
During our Founder’s path of self discovery leading up to PROTA FIORI, she indulged herself in learning about these roots, where she studied her family’s past times and importance of maintaining tradition, and as a result, received a sense of self fulfillment that comes along with the soul searching journey we all aspire to have during our lifetime.
A new beginning
Prota Fiori is Born
Jennifer’s appreciation of luxurious Italian fashion and joy from her “eat pray love” type travels throughout all of Italy began to have more meaning during this discovery period. As the dots connected, PROTA FIORI was born with not only a mission preserve her Italian heritage but to also lead with an authentic purpose for the future of humanity in the most holistic way.
Connecting Past and Future
The Full Circle
Over 100 years later in the year of 2018, at the time Jennifer decided to create PROTA FIORI, she received a letter from Piana Di Monte Verna that she was officially an Italian citizen, the tiny communal village of Naples where her first ancestors left for the United States. Years in waiting for this moment Jennifer felt a true sense of connectedness to her roots.
