SUMMER LEMONADE OR LIMONATA

Artisan made 'bocaletta'

What Nonna taught us:

This is the artisan made “bocaletta”. It is the most authentic traditional Italian “recipe” that you can have the pleasure of making. The secret is not the ingredients, but the jug you should use to serve the limonata. You need a “bocaletta” and can pick one up along the Adriatic Coast near Ascolo Piceno. It is the most ancient serving vessel for wine and may possibly (we still don’t know!) originate from the period of Piceni.

Jugs or 'brocca' like this were typically used by those working in the fields who would fill them with fresh water to refresh themselves. The distinguishing feature is the snout of the jug which is open, but long and narrow. This prevents the lemon pieces from falling out when poured. The brown color with black marks is typical. When not being used for lemonade try using it to mix water and wine at home.

Ingredients:

1 lemon, 1.5 liters cold sparkling mineral water. You can add a couple of teaspoons of sugar to sweeten the lemonade, but we find it is not necessary.

How to make it:

Slice the lemon and place it the jug.

Add a quarter of the mineral water to allow the lemon to release its flavour.

Pour the rest of the bottle of mineral water into the jug just before serving.

Delicious.

Don’t forget to share the food you made with love with the people you love!
